  • This plan offers the lowest copays and has additional coverage for things like acupuncture and chiropractic care but has a higher premium than our other Sharp plans.

  • The Sharp Classic plan has no annual deductibles and $1,500 out of pocket maximum.

  • Plan Changes:

    • 6.2% Increase in premiums for Sharp Classic, Select, and Saver plans.

    • There are no benefit changes to any of our Sharp plans.

    • Network Change: Sharp Classic is now part of the Value Network.

      • The Value network offers the same coverage as the Choice Network, but no longer covers “Individual Provider Network.”

  • Active City Employees can enroll in Sharp through SAP.

If you’re looking to maximize your coverage, this is the plan for you. With no deductibles, a very generous out-of-pocket maximum, and additional benefit enhancements, the Sharp Classic plan truly has you covered.

What does that all mean? Good question. Out-of-pocket-maximums refer to the most you’ll pay in a calendar year out of pocket for copay. With the Sharp Classic plan you will, at most, pay $1,500 ($3,000 for families) for medical care in a year. Which is great! That means if there are serious issues going on and you are in and out of the hospital/doctors, you won’t have to worry about going above that amount. On top of that, through Sharp’s Value network you have access to a huge network of doctors and specialists all in and around the San Diego area.

Is the Sharp Classic Plan right for me?

If you’re looking at medical plans, you should think about what level of coverage you want. Most medical plans are offered at premium, middle, and budget tiers (think Platinum, Gold, Silver). When it comes to Sharp Plans, the Classic is at the platinum tier. It offers more coverage and is less restrictive but has a higher premium.

It’s important to note that if you live in Southern Riverside or the Temecula area, the Classic Plan has coverage in these locations. Additionally, the Rady Children’s hospitals are in the Classic’s Value network.

In order to make the best choice for you, we suggest you look at this benefit breakdown from Sharp that compares each plan and the rate sheet linked here. Think about what sort of medical needs you have and what plan fits best into your budget.
