Nationwide Pet Insurance at a Glance

  • The Nationwide Pet Insurance plan offers you 50 or 70% off covered vet bills.

  • This plan has a $250 deductible and a $7,500 annual max. It does not cover preexisting conditions.

  •  By adding additional pets (up to 4) you can save on your plans.

  • To use the plan, simply go to any licensed vet and pay your bill like usual. Ask your vet for an invoice, and then go to petinsurance.com and file a claim.

  • You can get 70% or 50% coverage. This refers to the amount of your bill Nationwide will pay. Both plans cover the same conditions.

  • This plan also gives you access to a 24/7 Vet Helpline and emergency boarding coverage.

  • Click here to get a quote.

  • To enroll your dog/cat, click “get a quote” in the side bar. To enroll any other pet, call 888-899-4874 and be sure to mention you’re an SDPEBA member.

Veterinary bills can be very expensive, Nationwide Pet Insurance can alleviate that. This insurance plan is a great option to make sure you’re covered if you’re ever stuck with a crazy bill for your best friend.

There are two versions of the plan: 50% coverage and 70% coverage. Unlike our older plans, both of these offer “My Pet Protection.” The only difference is how much of the bill Nationwide reimburses you after you submit your claim.

The plan covers all sorts of vet visits, such as: accidents and injuries, common illnesses, serious/chronic illnesses, hereditary and congenital conditions, and surgeries. Nationwide also helps with emergency boarding, lost pet advertising, and provides access to their 24/7 Vet Helpline, where you can get professional support over the phone. Think telehealth, but for dogs.

You can also get a discount for up to 4 pets. When you enroll 2-3 Pets it’s a 10% discount, and if you enroll 4 pets it’s a 15% discount.

Is Pet Insurance right for me?

That depends on all sorts of things. We really think everyone who owns a pet should, at the very least, get a quote. Which you can do by clicking “get a quote” on the sidebar of this page. And then consider how much you’re spending on vet bills annually, there’s a good chance you’ll save some money.

We also think that this plan is best suited for young pets. Since that’s generally when they’ll be getting all sorts of checkups, shots, and procedures (like being spayed/neutered). The plan is also great for older pets, since they tend to visit the vet a lot, but just remember that pre-existing conditions are not covered.

How much does this plan cost?

The plan’s cost varies based on your pet’s age, size, breed, and species. We recommend you get a quote by clicking the “Get a Quote” on the sidebar of this page. If you have exotic pets, you can get a quote by just calling 888-899-4874.

How do I enroll?

Enrollment comes with getting a quote, so I apologize for sounding like a broken record. You’ll need to click the “Get a Quote” button on this page, or if you have an exotic pet you’ll need to call Nationwide at 888-899-4874. When you call, be sure to mention that you’re an SDPEBA member.

How do I file a claim?

After your vet visit, ask your vet for an invoice for your pet insurance. From there, you just need to head to PetInsurance.com and then click “file a claim.” It’s pretty straightforward. You upload a picture or scan of the invoice and then answer the questions.

You can also download the VitusVet app, which is pretty straightforward and simple to use.

If you want to use your other plan features, like the 24/7 Vet Helpline, you’ll find all that information by logging into my.petinsurance.com after you enroll in the plan.
