The Sharp Select plan has a nice balance of lower monthly premiums and good medical coverage. With no deductibles on care and a generous out-of-pocket maximum, the Sharp Select plan is a good call for anyone who wants good medical coverage, but doesn’t want to break the bank. Note that there is a pharmaceutical deductible on covered preferred and non-preferred drug plans.
The main limiting factor for the Sharp Select plan is the network, but it has recently expanded to include Rady’s Children Hospital. This version of the Sharp plan is part of the Performance Network, with this plan coverage outside of San Diego is very limited.

Is Non-Medicare Select Plan right for me?
We think that if you qualify for Medicare, it is probably in your best interest to consider the Sharp Direct Advantage plan that includes Medicare. These Non-Medicare plans have a higher monthly premium than their Active Employee counterparts, and so you should look at the rate sheet before continuing. If you cannot get Medicare or have looked at that plan and don’t want it, then you can definitely consider this plan.
If you’re comparing different health plans, a lot of them use metals like bronze, silver, and gold. When it comes to Sharp Plans, the Select plan is at the gold tier. It offers a decent amount of coverage but is more restrictive about where you can go.
It’s important to note that if you live in Southern Riverside or the Temecula area, the Classic Plan has coverage in these locations. Additionally, the Rady Children’s hospitals are in the Classic’s Value network. So if you live outside of San Diego County or Southern Riverside, Sharp might not be the best plan for you.
In order to make the best choice for you, we suggest you look at the benefit breakdown from Sharp that compares each plan and the rate sheet both linked in the sidebar. Think about what sort of medical needs you have and what plan fits best into your budget.
