Purchasing Power gives all SDPEBA members access to their online catalogue that sells anything from appliances like washing machines, important technology like laptops, and even vacations.
So, it’s Amazon with vacations? Not exactly. When you buy something with Purchasing Power, you’ll be making biweekly payments on your purchases that come directly out of your paycheck. But it’s not like layaway or buying things on credit. When you buy something, you get it shipped to you right away and there is no added interest or changes in price.
To be clear, Purchasing Power is not a discount service, it’s a budgeting tool. If your fridge, washing machine, or other important appliance breaks and you need a new one but you can’t afford it, Purchasing Power helps you budget that in without breaking the bank. We think about it like this, if you have cash or money in your checking account to buy something, then that’s the better deal, but if you were planning to use a credit card or assure, or some form of layaway service, Purchasing Power might be a better option for you.
Is Purchasing Power right for me?
Since the plan is free, it’s useful for everyone. The main draw of Purchasing Power is that it can help ease the financial burden of big purchases, so you can buy something important without worrying about debt or dipping into your savings.
Just remember that it is not a discount service. Products bought through Purchasing Power will cost more than they do from other providers. There are sometimes discounts and sales, but even then, you’ll probably still be paying above MSRP.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment is year-round and you can sign up on their site! Just head to here and click the “sign up” button. Fill in your information (for Employer/Organization put in SDPEBA) and then start shopping, it's that easy!
How do I use the plan?
