Is the Legal Plan right for me?

If you are going to be doing anything law related in the coming year, the answer is probably yes. That means if you’re going to get your Will/Trust done, if you’re going to court for anything, or if you need help writing/reviewing a contract, this plan might help you save a lot of money.

Around 50% of Americans in a given year are involved in a court case in one way or another, so this service might even be useful just to protect you if something like this comes up! We recommend you look at what’s covered and see if any of that interests you.

How do I enroll?

To enroll in MetLife Legal, click on “Enroll Now” in the sidebar and fill out the form. Or you can call 888-315-8027 during Open Enrollment. If you have any questions about enrolling, feel free to call that number or email support@SDPEBA.org. If you already have the plan, you don’t need to reenroll, only contact us to add, change, or remove your existing plans.

How do I file a claim? How do I use the plan?

Once you’re enrolled and your plan has started, you’ll need to make an account, which you can do online or over the phone. MetLife Legal recommends you go through their site: www.members.legalplans.com in order to quickly access all the tools at your disposal. From this site, you can work on estate planning, get a case number, find an attorney, and more.

If you’re having any trouble accessing your plan online or if you’d rather work over the phone, you can call in at 1-800-821-6400. From there you’ll be able to get a list of covered in-network attorneys and a case number.

In order to start talking directly with an attorney, you’ll need to get a case number and then contact that attorney directly, and from there, it's in your hands!

If you’re looking to use your own attorney, you can, they just might be out-of-network. If that’s the case, MetLife will reimburse you some of the legal fees, but you most likely will pay some out-of-pocket costs.
